Questions & answers
Is Stowl really free?
Yes, Stowl is free right now. You can use it without any account. If you want to sync your collections across computers, sign in with your email, which is also free right now (see the founding member offer below for how to lock in free sync forever).
What's the founding member offer?
The first 500 people to install Stowl and sign in become founding members. When we introduce paid plans down the road, your cross-device sync stays free forever, no matter what.
What data does Stowl collect?
Only what's needed to make Stowl work. If you don't sign in, nothing leaves your device. If you sign in for sync, we store your tab titles, URLs, favicons, and collection names. We never sell data. Full details in the privacy policy.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Stowl saves everything locally first. If you're signed in, changes sync automatically when you're back online.
Which browsers does it support?
Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc, and any other Chromium-based desktop browser. Chrome extensions do not run on iOS or Android, so mobile is not currently supported. Firefox and Safari builds are on the roadmap.
Can I export my data?
Yes. All your collections and saved tabs can be exported anytime from the settings menu, so your data is always yours to take.
How is Stowl different from Chrome bookmarks?
Bookmarks are for pages you want to keep forever. Stowl is for tabs you're not done with yet. Save an entire messy window in one click, close it, and pull the whole thing back later when you need it. Bookmarks work one page at a time and clutter fast. Stowl handles groups of tabs as sessions.
Does Stowl slow down my browser?
No. Stowl only runs when you open its tab or when you save something. It doesn't run scripts on every page you visit, doesn't inject anything into your browsing, and doesn't touch tabs you haven't asked it to save.
What happens to my data if Stowl ever shuts down?
If Stowl is ever discontinued, you'll get at least 30 days' notice by email (if you've signed in) and a chance to export everything. Your local data stays intact regardless, since it lives in your browser storage until you delete it.
Can I share collections with other people?
Not yet. Sharing is on the roadmap but not in the current version.
